Bay, Village & Shore
A Family Journey – Kotor, Perast, Zlijebi
This is a full-day experience that moves your family from the Bay of Kotor into the Montenegrin countryside and back again. Along the way, your children will ride a boat to a man-made island with a 500-year story behind it, walk through a village where a local family opens their home to share how life has been lived here for generations, and watch mussels and oysters being pulled fresh from the bay at a small family-run farm.
There is no rushing. The day is paced so that every stop has time to breathe, and every experience is something your family does together. The places we visit, the families who host you, and the meals you share are all arranged privately for your group.
Trip Details
Duration: Full day (09:30 - 17:00)
Start & Return: Kotor
Route: Kotor - Perast - Zlijebi - Verige Strait - Kotor
Suited for: Families with children of all ages
Includes: All meals, activities, boat rides, private transport
Morning – The Bay of Kotor
Following the edge of the bay, through one of the most scenic coastal drives in the Mediterranean.
09:30 – Departure from Kotor
Private transfer along the Bay of Kotor. The road hugs the waterline, passing small fishing villages, stone churches, and views that open wider with every turn. This is one of those drives where the scenery does all the work.
For families: Kids ride with the windows down and the bay right beside them. The drive is short enough to hold their attention and beautiful enough to keep it.
09:50 – Perast & Our Lady of the Rocks
Perast is a small, quiet town built from stone, sitting right on the water with mountains behind it. Your family takes a short boat ride from the waterfront out to Our Lady of the Rocks, a tiny island that exists only because local sailors spent centuries dropping stones into the sea to build it.
Inside the church, the walls are lined with paintings and silver votives left by sailors' families over hundreds of years.
For families: The boat ride out to the island is a highlight for children. The story of how the island was built, stone by stone over 500 years, is fascinating. Back in Perast, the waterfront is flat and easy to walk with children of any age.
Midday – Into the Countryside
Leaving the bay behind. The roads narrow, the landscape opens up, and you enter a part of Montenegro that most visitors never reach.
11:10 – Drive to Zlijebi
A 40-minute drive inland from Perast. The scenery shifts from coastal to rural as the road climbs away from the bay. Stone walls, olive groves, and small farmsteads replace the waterfront towns.
For families: Children watch the landscape change in real time from sea to mountains.
11:50 – Village Welcome & Walk
A local family in Zlijebi opens their home and their village to your group. This is not a guided museum tour. Your host shares real stories about life, history, and traditions.
For families: Children experience a completely different way of life. The village is safe, open, and perfect for exploration.
12:50 – Lunch in the Village
A homemade meal prepared by the family, using ingredients from their own land. Bread baked that morning, vegetables from the garden, and traditional recipes.
For families: Simple, fresh food that works well for kids. Relaxed, natural setting.
13:50 – Free Time in Zlijebi
An hour with nothing planned. Walk, relax, take photos, or enjoy the quiet.
For families: Kids get space to explore and play freely.
Afternoon – Back to the Bay
14:50 – Drive to Verige Strait
A scenic return toward the bay, with stunning views opening up between the mountains.
15:35 – Verige Strait Viewpoint
A short stop at one of the best viewpoints in the Bay of Kotor.
For families: Quick and impressive stop, great for photos.
15:45 – Oyster & Mussel Farm Visit
The final stop is a family-run farm where you learn how oysters and mussels are grown and harvested. You’ll taste them fresh from the sea.
For families: Hands-on experience. Kids can see, touch, and learn directly.
16:45 – Return to Kotor
Short drive back. Arrival by 17:00.
