Full-day trip – detailed overview

9:00 am – Departure from Kotor and Cable Car ride:

We start from 360 Monte’s Office at 9:00 am – our office in the Old Town of Kotor. To reach the fantastic views of the Bay of Kotor and ‘conquer’ Lovćen Mountain, we will take the Cable Car. This ride overlooks the famous Old Austro-Hungarian Serpentine Road from 1884, offering spectacular views. What an unforgettable start to a fantastic day and the first of many highlights for those looking for the tour from Kotor to Lovćen.

*Please note that taking the cable car might not be possible due to the weather conditions. Therefore, we will take an old winding road instead, making stops along the way and capturing incredible views of Boka Bay.

Kotor Bay, listed among the 25 most beautiful bays in the world, is a majestic sight as we continue our journey.

After admiring the magnificent Bay of Kotor, our journey over the slopes of Mount Lovćen takes us to Njeguši. Here, on the winding roads with more than 300-year-old Montenegrin stone houses, you’ll see an untouched rural lifestyle.

10:30 am – Arrival at Njeguši Village and breakfast:

At 10:30 am, we invite you to enjoy a traditional breakfast at Montenegro’s oldest restaurant, established in 1881. Don’t miss the complimentary RAKIJA shot, a solid local brandy, to start your day in true Montenegrin style.

Noon – Visiting Lovćen National Park:

We continue, driving through the National Park to reach the famous Lake Peak (Jezerski Vrh). This ride-through is a super important part of our Montenegro Tour, perfect for anyone wanting the best Montenegro adventure.

Let’s do some hiking! Yes, our Great Montenegro Tour is a combination of everything. Four hundred fifty stone steps will take you to the Lovcen Mausoleum with the Petar Petrovic Njegos II statue.

The statue, completed in 1974, stands an impressive 4 meters high and weighs 29 tons, symbolizing Montenegro’s grandeur and history.

The mausoleum’s ceiling, adorned with a golden mosaic made from 200,000 gold pieces weighing 18 kg, adds to the awe-inspiring experience for visitors on day trips from Kotor and Budva.

As we leave the mausoleum, a breathtaking view of Montenegro’s mountainous terrain unfolds. This view, encompassing 70% of the country’s rocky terrain, is a highlight for photography enthusiasts and is one of the best viewpoints in Montenegro. It’s the perfect opportunity for a memorable jumping photo from Lovcen’s viewpoint.

Did you know that from Lovcen Viewpoint, you can also see every neighboring country? And, if the day is super clear, you can also see Italy’s coastline!

1:45 pm – Cetinje Walking Tour:

Continuing our journey, we descend from Lovćen towards the historic and culturally rich Old Royal Capital, Cetinje. This part of our day trip from Kotor offers insights into Montenegrin history, heritage, and culture.

Upon arriving at the Old Royal Capital, you will delve into the heart of Montenegrin history. Founded in the 15th century, Cetinje is not just a stop on our Montenegro Tour. Instead, it is a journey through time. Furthermore, the town showcases the nation’s cultural and Orthodox religious heritage through its authentic Montenegrin architecture and significant historical monuments.

During our Cetinje walking tour, we’ll explore the area where the Monastery of Cetinje, King Nikola’s Palace, the Court Church at Ćipur, Biljarda, and the residence of Peter II Petrović Njegoš are located. Furthermore, this part of the tour is particularly enriching for those on Montenegro trips, as it helps to understand the country’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

3:30 pm – Arrival at the River of Crnojević:

Next, we head towards the Crnojević River, a must-visit part of Lake Skadar National Park. The journey to this wild and natural oasis reveals Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans and one of the jewels in Montenegro’s crown. This area, 60% of which is in Montenegro and protected as a National Park, is a haven for birds and fish, making it a must-see for nature lovers and those who love bird watching.

As we lose sight of Skadar Lake, the enchanting Crnojević River offers some of Montenegro’s most picturesque scenes. To reach the River of Crnojevic, we will first stop at one of Montenegro’s most famous postcard places—Pavlova Strana viewpoint.

Upon arrival, we will have our lunch stop by the tranquil river.

It is a refreshing experience, especially during the warm summer months. Additionally, the local cuisine here is a real treat. Therefore, savor the flavors and regain energy before embarking on a boat ride down the river.

The boat ride along the Crnojević River, which directly feeds into Skadar Lake, gives us a glimpse of the lake’s lush vegetation, water lilies, and dynamic birdlife. This experience is integral to any Skadar Lake National Park tour and provides an immersive natural experience.

5:30 pm – St. Stefan:

As the day draws to a close, we approach the renowned island and luxury resort of St. Stefan in Budva. A major attraction on the Riviera of Budva, Saint Stefan’s history as a fishing village turned exclusive hotel town is fascinating and perfect for a short trip getaway!

After photographing the island’s beauty, we offer an optional drop-off in Budva for those who wish to conclude their day trip from Kotor there. Meanwhile, the journey back to Kotor is filled with reflections of the day’s adventures, creating a serene experience. Furthermore, this tranquility is significantly enhanced as we drive with the setting sun.
