Mount Orjen: One of the Most Popular Hikes in Kotor Bay

Standing at 1,894m (6214 ft), Orjen is the tallest mountain in the Bay of Kotor, and this hike is worth taking when visiting this part of Montenegro. With medium physical difficulty, get ready to experience the breathtaking views of the bay in this 7-8 hours-long hike. After you’re done, you can go to the Adriatic Sea for a dip and quick cooling down.

This park in eastern Montenegro boasts the highest peak in the country (Zla Kolata) and several other heights to make your inner mountaineer dance happily. But the views aren’t the only thing that will take your breath away – the trails in this park are no joke. They’re tough, they’re challenging, and they’re guaranteed to give your legs a workout. But trust us. It’s worth it.

Hiking in Kotor: Conquering the heights of Europe’s Most Southern Fjord

Kotor and its Bay are lesser-known destinations for hikers in Montenegro. They are known more for their stunning natural beauty and rich history. However, in recent years, they have gained popularity among travelers and locals alike. So, let’s dive in! Or should we say, Reach Our Peak!

The most popular and obvious one is the Kotor fortress hike, which involves 1360 steps and incredible views over Kotor’s Old Town and its bay. Want to put those legs to the test? From San Giovanni (St. John’s Fortress), continue upwards and try to conquer Pestingrad Peak, hiking the famous Ladder of Kotor! It’s worth the hike, and after you’re done, you can come by one of the best restaurants in Kotor – Resto Bar Taraca for some freshly squeezed juices and the best vegan and vegetarian food in Kotor.

Kotor to Lovcen Hiking Trail

This spot is perfect for hikers looking to add culture to their outdoor adventures. It offers panoramic views of Kotor Bay and the surrounding landscapes, which include most of Montenegro.

One of the most popular trails is the Kotor to Lovcen hike, which takes you to the top of the mountains, Lake Peak, where you can visit the highest Mausoleum in the world. Remember that you are entering Lovcen National Park, so you must pay entrance fees to the National Park and the Mausoleum. But it is worth it! Oh, and it doesn’t come easy. You will be hiking from Kotor (sea level) to 1660 meters (5446 feet).

Kapa Moracka: Hiking in Central Montenegro

Kapa Moračka is a towering, majestic peak in Montenegro’s breathtaking Morača Mountains.

If you plan to visit Kapa Moračka, you’ll want to follow the winding road leading to this awe-inspiring peak. Starting from Niksic, on the way to the picturesque village of Mala Lukavica, where you can see Mali Žurim (one of the most beautiful peaks in Montenegro), and from there, proceeding towards the breathtaking Kapetanovo Jezero (Captiain’s Lake). From there, follow the path and the markings until you reach the top. The view from the summit is out of this world!
