Boat Tour Stop No.1: Visiting the Legendary Island of Our Lady of the Rocks

The fabled Our Lady of the Rocks, a man-made islet rich in history and distinctive local character, is your first stop. The peaceful island invites you to explore its holy church, constructed by seafaring men as a tribute to the Virgin Mary, as soon as you set foot on it. You will see the church’s museum, which houses unique artifacts that chronicle acts of steadfast devotion. Take in the tranquil atmosphere of this unique island and allow the stories to enthrall you.

Please note that on the tour day, we might visit the island at the beginning or leave it until the very end. Either way, it is equally incredible!

It’s time for a dip after taking in the beauty of Our Lady of the Rocks! Take a refreshing dip in the sparkling blue waters of Kotor Bay. As you float, snorkel, and take in the peace of one of Montenegro’s most pristine spots, you’ll feel the cool embrace of the sea. Remember to put on your goggles; the underwater sights are as captivating as the above scenery.

Boat Tour Stop No.3: Blue Cave – An Absolute Highlight of our Kotor Boat Tour

Your journey continues out to sea as you sail towards the well-known Blue Cave, one of Montenegro’s most surreal natural wonders. As you travel by, you’ll pass the massive Mamula Island – a WWII prison!

Welcome to the Blue Cave! The heavenly blue hue permeating the cavern as soon as you enter is caused by sunlight reflecting off the seafloor’s white sand. This stop will remain a memorable highlight of your boat tour to the Blue Cave, as this exciting location begs you to enjoy a fantastic swim.

Boat Tour Stop No.4: Explore Montenegro’s Secret History via Submarine Tunnels

After that, your Boka Bay boat excursion takes an exciting turn as you explore the undiscovered Yugoslav submarine tunnels in Montenegro. During the Cold War, submarines were protected by secret tunnels that were cut into the coastline. Our Kotor boat tour begins in the Old Town Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled at the end of the Bay of Kotor. This medieval town is a treasure trove of history, with its well-preserved walls, old buildings, and winding streets. The town's charm lies in its blend of various building styles, reflecting its varied historical influences.
About 30 minutes into our Kotor Cruise, you'll pass the baroque town of Perast. Even though we don't visit Perast, you'll be able to see it from a different perspective - taking a million photos from the boat. First, from here, we will glimpse the Lady of the Rocks (ME: Gospa od Škrpjela) and St. George (ME: Sv. Đorđe) islands. Later in the day, we will stop by for a visit to Lady of the Rock's church and a museum.
The best way to cool down during the hot Montenegrin summer is to stop in Boka Bay. Dive into its crystal, ink-blue waters near Bijela for a well-deserved swim break. Now refreshed and relaxed, our boat tour continues toward the mouth of the bay. As our Kotor cruise continues, you can see the towns of Tivat and Herceg Novi in the distance.
At the entrance of the Bay of Kotor, you’ll spot a former fortified prison and concentration camp called „Mamula. “ The original purpose of Mamula Island was to serve as a defensive fort. Its location held the perfect defense position, protecting the entire Bay. It was only during WWII that the Italians decided to convert it into a concentration camp. You’ll be passing by to carefully seize the wild interlace of history and nature and see what it has become today - a 5-star luxury hotel. As the boat tour continues, we reach the open sea. Soon, you’ll arrive at the most attractive cave in the region – its majesty, the Blue Cave!
As the boat sails out of the Bay of Kotor, the first major highlight is the Blue Cave. Located on the Luštica Peninsula, Blue Cave is famous for its dazzling blue waters. Montenegro's Blue Cave has two openings. A boat and smaller vessels can enter the cave through the larger entrance. This will allow you to experience its incredible interior game of light and water. As the cave is accessible by boat, you'll be greeted by a surreal blue glow upon entering. Swimming and snorkeling here are not just refreshing but also a must! It is one of the best things to do in Montenegro. For a real cave experience, we recommend swimming from the boat and using snorkeling masks to explore the world beneath the water's surface. We will provide life jackets for unsecured swimmers. These shades of blue can hardly be seen anywhere in the world, and clear, illuminating water calls you to dive into the atmosphere of this natural theater. Don't miss being part of this blue world. Shake it to create some 'sparks' and enjoy! Hey! It's already 11:30 a.m., and it's time to head back to the Bay for more attractions!
The first attraction is former military tunnels strategically hidden in rocks, where the Yugoslav navy stored its torpedoes and submarines during the war. These hidden tunnels, carved into the rock, were part of Yugoslavia's military defense system. Designed to hide and repair submarines and naval vessels, today they are a stark reminder of the region's recent history and offer an intriguing glimpse into military architecture. Our captain will approach these tunnels as much as the boat allows (maybe even entering inside if the sea is calm) so you can admire this historical site from a closer range.
As the boat glides towards Tivat, you'll encounter Porto Montenegro, a luxury yacht marina and village. This modern and vibrant village contrasts sharply with the historical ambiance of Kotor and Perast. Porto Montenegro is a haven for yachts and offers upscale restaurants, designer shops, and contemporary art galleries. It's a perfect spot to experience the luxurious side of Montenegro's coastal life.
We disembark at Porto Montenegro, a beautiful, modern luxury town and a yachting paradise within the bay of Tivat. Enjoy your lunch and spend some free time exploring the “posh” streets.
It is time to continue our boat tour to the most visited island in Kotor Bay - Our Lady of the Rocks!
According to the legend, local seamen built the islet over the centuries after they found the Madonna and the Child icon on the sea rock on July 22, 1452. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea. It took 100 years to build the isle and 100 more to complete the church. Now, Our Lady of Rocks protects all seamen who come to Boka Bay. Your tour guide will provide more details about the island, church, and museum. Next to Our Lady of the Rocks lies a natural island, St. George, with a church from the 9th century. St. Georges' island is closed for visits.
As the day winds down, our Kotor boat tour heads back - the perfect time to capture the stunning sunset over the Bay of Kotor. The golden hues of the setting sun against the mountains and the tranquil bay backdrop create a picturesque scene, offering a serene conclusion to an eventful day. As we approach our disembarkation point, we’ll pass beautiful old villages on the opposite side of the Bay: Stoliv, Prčanj, and Muo.
Our Kotor Cruise is a journey through beautiful landscapes, time, culture, and flavors. It offers something for everyone, whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking to relax and unwind. With its natural beauty, historical richness, and modern luxury, our Kotor boat tour promises an unforgettable experience in the heart of Montenegro.
