All of that, in a single day? Oh, yes!

Leave the Coast Behind: Your Excursion Starts in Perast

This journey pulls you from the quiet elegance of Perast and the mirror-like Bay of Kotor into a completely different world, one of rising peaks, deep canyons, glacier-fed lakes, and stories carved into stone.

Perast and the View Above Risan Bay

You’ll watch the bay disappear beneath mountain roads as morning mist drifts over the water, with a photo stop overlooking Our Lady of the Rocks and Saint George Island before the climb begins in earnest.

A Panorama and Breakfast in Nikšić

You’ll stand above an emerald lake near Nikšić, Montenegro’s second-largest city, then feel the landscape grow raw and dramatic as Durmitor National Park and its rocky giants take over the horizon.

Đurđevića Tara Bridge and the Tara Canyon

At the Tara River Canyon, the scale of nature truly hits you. One of Europe’s deepest canyons cuts through the earth below, its turquoise river flowing so pure it’s drinkable. Whether you walk the bridge or fly above it on a zip line, this is the kind of place that makes you feel small in the best possible way.

    Žabljak and the Black Lake

Then comes Žabljak, high, simple, authentic. Wooden houses, fresh mountain air, and the untouched beauty of Black Lake, hidden among thick pine forests. Walk the trail, swim in crystal water during summer, or just pause. No noise. No rush. Just nature doing its thing.

    Ostrog Monastery

And just when you think the day has shown you everything, the road twists toward Ostrog Monastery, dramatically built into a vertical cliff face. As the sun begins to soften, the white walls glow against the rock, and you understand why people travel from across the world to stand here.

    Details

Designed for all nature and adventure lovers, our North Montenegro Tour combines all the places that make Montenegro wild and wonderful - beginning from the beautiful Kotor Bay, driving up to the high elevations of the Durmitor National Park, admiring the deepest canyon in Europe - the river Tara, hiking around Black Lake, and visiting the most famous and mysterious spiritual spot in the Balkans - the Ostrog Monastery.

We start the day at 360 Monte’s office in Old Town Kotor and head toward the elegant baroque town of Perast. After about 20 minutes, we pause for our first photo stop, overlooking the iconic Our Lady of the Rocks (man-made) and Saint George (natural) islands.

As we climb into the mountains, the Bay of Kotor unfolds beneath us. Morning fog often blankets the water, creating a dramatic, almost mystical view - a perfect moment for photos before continuing north.

Driving past Grahovo and along the slopes of Orijen Mountain, we reach Nikšić, Montenegro’s second-largest city. Before breakfast, we stop at Slano Lake for a quick leg stretch and an amazing panorama! After soaking in the scenery, we enjoy a well-deserved local breakfast. From here, we continue toward the striking peaks of Durmitor.

We arrive at the impressive Đurđevića Tara Bridge, once the highest in Europe. Stretching 365 meters across one of the deepest canyons in Europe (1,300 meters), it towers 172 meters above the Tara River - known as the “Tear of Europe” for its crystal-clear water. During our 30-minute stop, you can walk the bridge or try one of the region’s longest zip lines

Next is Žabljak, the highest town in the Balkans (1,450 m). From here, we visit Black Lake, the jewel of Durmitor National Park. Known as one of the “Mountain Eyes,” it’s part of 18 glacial lakes in the area.

It's time for a well-deserved lunch break! Do not miss trying our local specialties - served at one of the best restaurants in Žabljak.

In the late afternoon, we ascend the winding road to Ostrog Monastery, dramatically carved into the cliff face. Built in 1667, it remains one of the Balkans’ most important pilgrimage sites, attracting visitors from around the world. As sunset approaches, the views and atmosphere here are unforgettable.

After a full day exploring Montenegro’s mountains, canyons, lakes, and spiritual landmarks, we return to Kotor around 8:30 PM.

A complete North Montenegro experience - nature, culture, and epic viewpoints all in one day.
